With Easter out of the way, we are heading full steam towards summer and this week’s songs are the perfect party anthems. There’s a lot of dance music this week as house and EDM (Electronic Dance Music) continue to dominate the charts, but it is popular because it is so catchy. Have a listen to all of the tracks below:
1. Kiesza – Hideaway
Canadian singer Kiesza has stormed onto the music scene with her infectious single ‘Hideaway.’ The track has become the third fastest selling single of the year, having sold 136,000 copies in just seven days. ‘Hideaway’ also has an impressive music video, as the whole thing is done in one take. Even more amazing, is that the former Navy sniper reportedly broke a rib just before filming the video, hopefully having a number one single made it worth the pain! ‘Hideaway’ is out now and Kiesza is currently working on her debut album.
2. One Direction – You & I
Love them or hate them, One Direction are unavoidable but at least ‘You & I’ is not as in your face as some of their past singles. This downbeat track is about staying together through the thick and thin. Although it seems like a love song, its lyrics are vague and it could easily be about friendship lasting the test of time. The video for ‘You & I’ is simple, some of the transitions are a bit creepy but it is also quite fascinating to watch. ‘You & I’ is due for release on May 17th and with 10 million views on YouTube already, it is sure to do well.
3. Shift K3y – Touch
Another song new to the charts this week is Shift K3y’s ‘Touch’ which has landed straight at number 3. Having remixed the likes of Tinie Tempah, Bastille and AlunaGeorge you would expect big things from Shitf K3y, however ‘Touch’ is a fairly generic dance track. The single does have a catchy chorus and its video is colourful but not that exciting. At only 20 years old Shift K3y has plenty of time to develop his tunes. ‘Touch’ is available to buy now.
4. Neon Jungle – Welcome To The Jungle
This song may share its title with a classic Guns N’ Roses track but, Neon Jungle’s ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ couldn’t be any more different. This single also includes a rap verse which seems a little bit forced and its content does not particularly suit the group. The video is well styled and fun but not particularly original, it is also a shame that some of the members don’t get as much screen time as others. ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ is out now and the girls debut album is expected to drop later this year.
5. The Kooks – Down
The Kooks have returned after a few years away from the music industry with their single ‘Down.’ It is a different direction for the band, the song has a punchy drum beat and more of a hip-hop influence. The video is well suited to the track, it is edgy with out being too weird. ‘Down’ is available now and the band will be doing a four date mini tour in May.
